As part of my plans to get better at writing copies for Digital Products, I signed up for Daily UX Writing. I was given UX Writing prompts for 15 days. Below are my solutions to the page.
Scenario:
A traveler is in an airport waiting for the last leg of a flight home when their flight gets abruptly cancelled due to bad weather.
Challenge:
Write a message from the airline app notifying them of the cancellation and what they need to do next.
Headline: 45 characters
Body: 175 characters max
Button(s): 25 characters max
To write the copies for this challenge, I avoided fancy words or technical terms related to the aviation industry in order to make the user get the message I intend to pass without overthinking.
I avoided using the word "sorry" also because as empathetic as it sounds, it is not the fault of the airline that the flight was cancelled and constantly saying sorry for errors they aren't responsible for (The bad weather isn't their fault) makes them look inefficient.
The CTAs are also designed to ensure the user is given the freedom to choose their actions. I empathized with the user and opted for CTAs that allow them to wait for the next flight or request for refund should they wish to travel by another means even in the bad weather. I must mention that the weather may be bad for a plane to fly but not bad for a bus or train.
Scenario:
A user is a working parent, and a big sports fan, in the midst of their favourite sports season who can no longer attend games.
